Happy Birthday, Sweetie! You turned 6 months old yesterday, and they have been very fun months! You are chunky and wiggly and you think everything is funny, except nap time. You started crawling on May 23rd and are almost sitting up by yourself. (You'll balance there for a while if we put you in the right position.) You don't like to be held for very long, because you want to get down and explore constantly. But when you get sleepy, you hold us like a koala bear, lay your head on our shoulders and coo.
Your hair has grown in a pretty light brown, almost blonde. Your bald spot is mostly gone. Sometimes when you are nursing, you blow raspberries instead of sucking - one of the many ways you've learned to make us laugh. You love to play peek-a-boo and sing songs, especially with Soren because she is the most exciting person you know. We think her unpredicable nature is causing a Howard Stern effect - you're always watching her carefully to see what crazy thing she's going to do next. We're calling you "Junie" now, in addition to "Ava" and all of your previous nicknames.
You've been eating rice cereal for weeks, and have cycled through carrots and green beans so far. We might start some apples tonight. You still have no teeth, but you love gumming the little Gerber cereal puffs. (You learned how to pick them up and put them in your mouth in about 2 days.) You even ate some chunks of carrots and corn, which resulted in some very interesting diapers, and something we're referring to as The Case of the Missing Corn.
You went to the Barber family reunion in Arkansas over Memorial Day weekend and got to meet a lot of relatives and have a really good time. You saw your first movie while we were there - Shrek the Third. It was pretty exciting, but you fell fast asleep about halfway through.
Your Nanny and Baba got a new pool, and you are fascinated by the water. It has been a little too cold to get in, but you did get to dip your feet in and be splashed by Soren. Maybe next weekend we will take you swimming for the first time.
You sleep well, usually from 8pm - 4am, and then back down again after you eat. Peggy says you are the best napper at her day care, and she loves you very much. She says you listen like a big girl when she explains things to the older kids, and you are so curious about everything.
We are infrequently updating your
Video page, and putting up pictures on
Flickr. We're having too much fun playing with you to remember to record it all for posterity. What a happy baby you are! We love you!
